Assistant Professor of Sociology
Princeton University
I study how organizations and institutions operate as sites and conduits of social change, with a focus on the global diffusion—and reversal—of LGBT+ rights. My work spans political sociology, organizations, culture, gender & sexuality, and migration. Methodologically omnivorous, I leverage large-scale administrative data, novel datasets, qualitative interviews, and fieldwork to generate new insights into the contested politics of equality.
My book, Architectures of Hate, examines how U.S. civil society is undoing global LGBTQ+ rights—and democracy with it. My work has appeared in the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Social Forces, Journal of Democracy, and other outlets.
